  • "I truly enjoyed reading the book and so did my daughter." - E. F., Ohio

  • "It brought back many fond memories of my own life, since my grandmother was also from the Val di Non. However, regardless of this: a truly inspiring and uplifting story, which everyone can relate to, moreover, is a 'must-read'..." - P. (Dolzani) H., Pennsylvania

In Sylvia Rauzi McElroy's own words:

"A biography of my father's life.  Most of it taken from a tape recording of him telling his story shortly before he died.  I did this taping to preserve the memory of his powerful life which was so amazingly interesting and so very good. Some of his memories are heart-warming and some are heart-wrenching; some are so funny, while others are quite intriguing.

The first chapter tells of the history and life in his hometown, Cloz (Val di Non), Trento, Italia.  The remainder takes you from his young years (10 years old) to his death.

Some of his life's stories include: amateur acting--being screen tested for the movies, hijacking a train in Russia, starvation and other war stories, injustice he endured at a teenager that affected his whole life and gave him great compassion for young people, standing up to Mafia thugs, a shoot-out with robbers, prohibition stories, his work for the Church, the uproar over his marriage, snubbing Mussolini etc.   I just picked some topics at random.  There is so very, very much more. Of course, it also includes his role as husband, father and worker.

The book is being received unanimously as a book people can't put down.  Some have even read it in one sitting because they couldn't stop reading.  They tell me they cry and they laugh.  I am so very grateful!!"

- Sylvia Rauzi McElroy

 Father Bonifacio Bolognani

Biography:

Bonifacio Bolognani was born in Vigo Cavedine (Trentino-Italy) on April 9, 1915. He was ordained a Franciscan priest on June 11, 1938.  During the Second World War, and immediately thereafter, he worked for the American Red Cross and the Pontifical Commission of  Assistance on behalf of prisoners of war, refuges and the victims of the conflict. On November 1948, he left Trentino for Central and later on South America, and he founded a Franciscan Mission in Bolivia, in 1951 he reached the United States to live and work among the immigrants from Trentino for twenty two years. Throughout these experiences in the U.S.A., he collected a multitude of precious information about our immigrants, he became acquainted with the First Pioneer of the South West, Fr. Eusebio Francisco Kino of Segno (1643-1711), and eventually with his cousin Fr. Martino Martini (1614-1661) who labored in China. For his historical contribution, on April 1st, 1979, Father Bolognani was chosen as an Ordinary Member of the Academy of the Agiati in

Rovereto. As superior by the National Shrine of Copacabana in Bolivia, he founded the first monthly Catholic magazine in that country: La Voz de Copacabana.
